Custom Cotton Doll Clothes: Sizing and Fit Checks Before Bulk Orders

Before ordering custom cotton doll clothes in bulk, identify the exact doll body the outfits must fit. Send its measurements, reference photos and, where practical and agreed with the supplier, a physical doll. A label such as “20 cm” describes a height category; it does not by itself confirm the fit of a jacket, trousers or hat.

This guide is for brands and IP owners developing a production order. Use it to prepare a sizing brief and review an outfit sample, rather than as a ready-made sewing pattern or a universal size chart.

Choose one reference body before discussing sizes

Give the reference doll a name or body code and identify the sample version. Note its pose, whether the arms move, and any ears, tail, hairstyle or other features that clothing must pass around. If the body is still being revised, mark the clothing fit as provisional.

For a collection with several characters, tell the supplier whether one outfit must fit every body or each character can have its own size. Check the intended bodies individually; do not promise compatibility across a whole height category based on one sample.

Separate body measurements from garment measurements

Record measurements in one stated unit and mark the start and end points on photos. For soft bodies, keep the measuring tape in contact without squeezing the stuffing. Ask the supplier to confirm the measurement method so both sides compare the same dimensions.

For tops, discuss chest circumference, the neck area, arm dimensions and intended garment length. For trousers, discuss waist and hip circumference, leg length and the route the feet must pass through. For hats or hoods, include the head area plus hair or ears that need space. Agree the exact points for the actual design.

A doll's chest circumference and a shirt's flat width are different measurements. Label each number as a body measurement, a finished-garment measurement or a requested target. Let the supplier propose the room needed for dressing and the intended silhouette; confirm it on the sample instead of applying an arbitrary allowance to every design.

Check how the outfit goes on and comes off

Specify whether the outfit is removable or permanently attached. For removable clothing, show the intended dressing sequence. Can the top pass over the head, or should it open at the back? Can hands and feet pass through the sleeves and trouser legs? Identify where closures will sit and whether they remain accessible.

Review a full outfit together. A jacket that fits the bare doll may fit differently over a shirt. Ask for a dressing demonstration and front, side and back views with all intended layers in place. Do not accept a fit that depends on forcing the garment or heavily compressing the doll.

Review the sample as a body-and-outfit pair

Check whether the closures fasten as intended, the hem and waistband sit in the agreed positions, and the outfit preserves the character's face and silhouette. Look for unwanted pulling, twisting, gaps or bulky layers. Record each change against a marked photo and keep the body version and outfit version together.

Use the intended fabric and closures for the fit decision, or explicitly record any temporary substitutes and arrange a further check. Before bulk production, agree which sample and measurement sheet are the reference, which deviations are acceptable and which changes require another review. Visual fit approval does not replace any applicable product safety assessment or testing.
